Living Room Gallery Wall Ideas

A living room gallery wall should start with one big anchor piece and grow outwards. Hang a large print in the centre above the sofa, balance smaller prints either side, and keep the whole group about two thirds the width of the sofa with equal 5 to 8 cm gaps.

Below is a ready-matched set of five botanical prints in ink blue, petrol, gold and blush, built around one A1 anchor, with the layout, sizes and hanging steps you can copy.

The set: five prints from one botanical series

Every print in this set comes from our La Botanique series: large, overlapping leaves painted in soft layers, with the same elegant serif title on a cream panel. The deep blue Flore Bleue is the A1 anchor. Two blue and gold prints sit at the top of each side, and two softer blush and peach prints sit beneath them, so the colours mirror each other across the sofa.

The palette suits cream, white and warm grey walls, navy or blue sofas, brass lamps and pale wood. It also works on a deep blue or green wall, where the cream panels stand out. Browse the full botanical prints collection or more living room wall art.

How to hang it

  1. Lay it out first. Arrange the five prints on the floor in front of the sofa: the A1 in the middle, two A3 prints stacked on each side.
  2. Hang the anchor. Centre the A1 above the middle of the sofa, with its centre at about 145 to 150 cm from the floor and 15 to 25 cm clear above the sofa back.
  3. Add the side stacks. Hang each pair of A3 prints about 5 cm out from the anchor, with about 5 cm between the two prints in each stack. Two stacked A3 prints come out very close to the height of the A1, so the group reads as one neat block.
  4. Check the width. The outer frames should finish well inside the arms of the sofa. On a 200 cm sofa this layout gives you roughly 130 cm of art, right on the two thirds rule.

Living room gallery wall mistakes

  • No anchor piece. A wall of small prints all the same size can look scattered above a big sofa. One large print gives the eye a place to land.
  • Too wide or too narrow. Wider than the sofa looks heavy; much narrower looks lost. Aim for about two thirds.
  • Hanging too high. The group should feel connected to the sofa, not floating near the ceiling.
  • A different story in every frame. One series, or two or three repeated colours, holds the wall together.

Questions people ask

What size prints for a living room gallery wall?
Above a standard sofa, use one A1 or A2 anchor with A3 or A4 prints around it. One A1 with two A3 prints stacked on each side fills about two thirds of a 200 cm sofa.
What is the rule for gallery walls?
Keep the arrangement about two thirds the width of the sofa, leave 15 to 25 cm between the sofa and the lowest frame, and keep every gap the same, usually 5 to 8 cm.
What is the best layout for a living room gallery wall?
An anchor in the centre with smaller prints balanced either side is the easiest to get right. A salon hang with mixed sizes suits eclectic rooms, and a grid suits very modern ones.
How far apart should frames be on a gallery wall?
5 to 8 cm between frames. With large prints, keep to the lower end so the group still reads as one piece.
Do frames on a gallery wall need to match?
They don't have to, but matching frames look calmer in a living room. If you mix them, keep the prints from one series or palette.
What are common gallery wall mistakes?
No anchor piece, hanging too high, uneven gaps and prints that share nothing in colour or style.
Are gallery walls out of style in 2026?
No. Living room gallery walls built around one large anchor and a shared palette remain a popular, practical choice.
