Hallway Gallery Wall Ideas

The best hallway gallery wall is a single straight row at eye level: prints of the same size, the same gap between each one, and a centre line around 145 to 150 cm from the floor. You walk past a hallway rather than stand in front of it, so a row that leads the eye along the corridor works better than a tall cluster.

Below is a ready-matched set of four coastal prints in teal, ultramarine and coral that tell one story from village to lighthouse, with sizes and a layout you can copy.

Why this set works in a hallway

All four prints come from one illustrated series, painted with the same short, swirling brushmarks in teal and blue, with pops of pink and yellow. Hung left to right they read like a walk along the coast: a harbour village with brightly painted houses, sailing boats moored in the bay, one boat heading out to sea, and a lighthouse on the rocks at the end. It gives people something to follow as they walk past.

The colours are bright enough to lift a dark or windowless hallway, but because the whole set shares one palette it never looks busy. You will find the rest of the series in our Scandinavian wall art and beach wall art collections.

How to hang it

  1. Find the middle of the wall. In a corridor, that is the point halfway between the doors or corners, not the middle of the floor.
  2. Draw a level line. Mark a faint pencil line at 145 to 150 cm from the floor. This is the centre line for every print.
  3. Hang the two middle prints first, either side of the centre mark, then add one at each end. Keep every gap the same, about 5 cm.
  4. Check the walkway. Make sure doors, coats and bags will not knock the frames. In a narrow hallway, slim frames sit closer to the wall and are less likely to be caught.

Got a longer corridor? Repeat the row on the opposite wall, or extend it with the two other prints from the same series. Keep the same centre line all the way along so the hallway looks planned.

Hallway gallery wall mistakes to avoid

  • Hanging to the ceiling. In a narrow space you see art from close up, so keep it at eye level, not high above head height.
  • Mixing too many sizes. Different sizes in a row make the top and bottom edges jump around. Same-size prints make a calm line.
  • Big gaps between prints. They break the row into separate pieces. Keep gaps tight and even.
  • Forgetting the light. A dark hallway hides detail. Choose bright prints, like this set, or add a picture light or wall light nearby.

Questions people ask

How high should a hallway gallery wall be hung?
Keep the centre line of the prints at about 145 to 150 cm from the floor, the same eye level used in the rest of the home. On a staircase, keep the same height above each step so the line follows the stairs.
What size prints work for a hallway gallery wall?
A3 prints suit most hallways because you see them from close up. In a wide entrance hall you can step up to A2; in a very narrow corridor, A4 prints in a longer row work well.
What is the best layout for a hallway gallery wall?
A straight row of same-size prints with equal gaps. It leads the eye along the corridor and keeps the walkway feeling open.
How far apart should frames be on a gallery wall?
5 to 8 cm is the usual gap. In a hallway, keep it towards the smaller end so the row reads as one piece.
What are common gallery wall mistakes?
Hanging too high, uneven gaps, mixing too many sizes and choosing prints that do not relate to each other. Pick one series or a shared palette and keep the spacing even.
Are gallery walls out of style in 2026?
No. Neat rows and sets that share one style are a current way to decorate hallways, landings and stairs.
Do frames on a gallery wall need to match?
In a hallway row, matching frames look best because they make a clean line. Natural oak suits this coastal set; white frames give a lighter, beach house feel.
