Gallery Wall Above the Bed
For a gallery wall above a bed, a row of three matching prints is the easiest layout to get right. Keep the row about two thirds the width of the headboard, hang it 15 to 25 cm above the top of the headboard, and leave the same gap between each frame, about 5 cm.
Below is a ready-matched set of three painted coastal prints in sky blue, sand and navy, with sizes, a layout you can copy and tips for hanging art safely over a bed.
The set: Centred row of three A3
About 99 cm wide in total with 5 cm gaps. Centre it over a double or king size bed, 15 to 25 cm above the headboard.

Why these three prints belong together
All three come from one series of soft, painterly beach scenes, made with the same loose brushstrokes, the same pale sky and the same band of navy sea. Hung side by side, the horizons run almost level, so the row reads like one long view of the coast. The left print shows a striped sailboat pulled up on the dunes, the centre a woman in a striped dress walking along the shore, and the right a cluster of beach parasols.
The middle print has the strongest focal point, so it sits in the centre above the pillows. The navy stripes repeat in all three and tie them together. It is a calm, airy palette that suits white, linen or blue bedding. See the rest of the series in our beach wall art collection.
How to hang it above the bed
- Find the centre of the bed, not the centre of the wall. If the bed is off to one side, the art follows the bed.
- Mark the height. The bottom of the frames should sit 15 to 25 cm above the top of the headboard. With no headboard, keep the row low enough to feel connected to the bed.
- Hang the middle print first, centred over the bed, then add one either side with an even gap of about 5 cm.
- Check the width. The row should finish well inside the edges of the headboard. Use a level, because any tilt is easy to see on a long row.
Want something bigger? The usual rule is one A1 above a double, or a pair of A2 prints above a king size. Plan other options with the gallery wall planner.
Safety and mistakes to avoid
- Loose fixings over a bed. Use two hooks per frame or proper wall anchors, and check them once in a while. Frames with acrylic glazing are lighter and safer than glass above a pillow.
- Hanging too high. Art close to the ceiling looks disconnected from the bed. Keep it low.
- A row that is too wide. If the prints run past the headboard, the wall looks crowded. Two thirds of the headboard width is plenty.
- Mixing unrelated styles. Above a bed you see the whole row at once, so prints from one series look calmer than a mix.
