Matisse spent his last years cutting shapes straight out of painted paper - leaves, seaweed, dancers, stars - and called it drawing with scissors. These Matisse-inspired art prints work in that language: flat colour, confident shapes, nothing fussy.

What the style is

Matisse began as a Fauvist, using colour for feeling rather than accuracy, and ended with the cut-outs he made from a wheelchair in Nice after surgery left him unable to stand at an easel. Assistants painted sheets of paper in gouache; he cut into them directly. The late work - "Blue Nude II", "The Snail", the Jazz series - is the part most people picture, and the part that has aged best on a wall.

Everything here is an original Laboo Studio design working in that idiom rather than a copy of a Matisse work. The shapes are ours; the approach is his.
