Teal Bedroom Ideas
Teal makes a calm but characterful bedroom when you balance it with warm partners such as mustard, blush or natural wood, and keep the bedding light. Deep teal walls feel cocooning; a teal headboard or throw against cream walls gives you the colour more gently.
Below: colours that go with teal, blue-leaning and green-leaning teals, decor ideas for walls, bedding and headboards, and how to choose art for teal walls.

The colour palette
What colours go with teal in a bedroom
- Mustard and ochre are the liveliest partners. A single mustard cushion against teal makes both colours look richer.
- Blush, coral and peach are the complementary side of teal. They soften it and add warmth.
- Cream and oatmeal bedding keeps a teal room restful.
- Charcoal and slate suit a moodier, more modern teal bedroom.
- Copper, rust and brass catch the light against deep teal walls.
The 60-30-10 rule keeps it in proportion: about 60% teal or cream, 30% wood and a soft neutral, and 10% mustard or blush.
Blue-teal or green-teal?
Teal sits between blue and green, and most shades lean one way. Blue-leaning teals such as peacock and petrol feel cooler and calmer. They suit white, grey, chrome and blush. Green-leaning teals such as deep jade feel warmer and more natural. They suit oak, rattan, mustard and rust.
Look at your teal next to a plain blue and a plain green. Whichever it sits closer to tells you whether to warm it up with wood and mustard or keep it crisp with white and grey.
Teal bedroom decor: walls, bedding and headboards
- Teal walls, wooden headboard: a natural oak or pine headboard against deep teal looks warm and relaxed.
- Teal velvet headboard: against cream or warm grey walls, a teal headboard is a single bold piece that is easy to style around.
- Bedding: cream or oatmeal sheets with a teal throw at the foot of the bed link the bed to the walls. Add one mustard or coral cushion.
- Metals: brass and gold accessories warm teal; brushed steel keeps it cool.
Choosing art for teal walls
Art for teal walls should repeat a little of the teal and add a warm contrast such as gold, mustard or coral. Japanese-style landscapes, birds, coastal scenes and leafy botanicals all suit it. On deep teal walls, prints with light backgrounds or golden tones stand out clearly; very blue prints can disappear.
Above the bed, aim for art about two thirds the width of the headboard: one A1 above a double, or a pair of A2 prints above a king size. Leave 15 to 25 cm between the headboard and the frame.
